Just a list of ideas for making Haiku apps.

Batteries-included PXE boot server

A GUI app (and accompanying CLI utils/daemons, wherever applicable) that allows you to launch a TFTP server, DHCP server etc., after just giving it a netbootable image. It should be also able to consume Linux kernel images (serving an appropriate boot loader).

Features:

  • At least x86 PC legacy BIOS boot
    • UEFI if diffie bothers to learn it
  • Ability to ingest various image formats:
    • Plain images (or just files to put on the TFTP)
    • Included options for preparing images with iPXE, PXELinux, GRUB2 etc.
    • Serving a more fancy loader (see ↑) and then using saner protocols than TFTP
    • Serving Haiku
    • Easter eggs images? Memtest86+? EFI shell?
  • Bare-bones DHCP server
    • Pre-configured to bootstrap the other machines
    • Per-machine config
  • Ability to run appropriately-configured QEMU to test the setup

Forking BeTon and enhancing it

It's currently missing a lot of stuff:

  • Global controls (via keyboard and also a CLI utility)
  • When the Rating column is shown, clicking there should adjust rating
  • Displaying only rated items

Weather apps

CHMI data client

Something that connects to dataprovider.chmi.cz and does (at least):

  • show past weather meteograms
  • show Aladin model forecasts
  • show text forecasts

Image map viewer

Just a cute weather app showing data from the following sources:

  • Czech/central Europe-specific:
    • CZRAD
    • CELDN
    • Aladin maps
  • MSG (variuns generations!)
  • NOAA polar satellites
